News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

The 114th Congress is winding down, and it’s safe to say that I’m already looking forward to everything that we will accomplish in the 115th Congress.

The Time is Now

One cause that I will continue to promote and fight for in the 115th Congress is opening trade relations with Cuba. Last year I introduced legislation titled The Cuba Trade Act which will lift the Cuba trade embargo. This past week, I joined members from the House and Senate as well as four Cuban women entrepreneurs at a press conference to highlight the need to lift the embargo. These women have excelled as entrepreneurs and are eager for the ability to grow and expand their success.

The Cuban people crave a change; they want to live in a country where every citizen has rights and opportunity. By introducing our island neighbor to American influences, we will be introducing them to the many benefits of capitalism and democracy. Trading with Cuba would not just help the Cuban people, but it would also benefit our nation and the Minnesotan economy in particular. The passing of Fidel Castro two weeks ago is a reminder that a new day is dawning in Cuba, and the time to is now to help affect that change. To learn more about my work in Cuba, click here.

Introducing the App Act

This week is Computer Science Education Week, a week designated to inspire our nation’s students to become interested and involved in computer science. It is quite fitting that it is Computer Science Education Week, because this week I also introduced a bill that has a similar goal. It is called the Advancing and Promoting Programming Act, or the App Act for short.

The Season of Giving

The holiday season is officially upon us and what better way to celebrate than by giving back to those in need. That is why my staff and I decided to have my district office serve as a Toys for Tots drop-off site for the program hosted by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Be Sure to Stop By!

Even though the 115th Congress is winding down, that doesn’t mean the work is over. I place a very high importance on hearing from the people that I serve, which is why I will be holding my tenth town hall of the year in Carver County on December 19th. If you have any concerns, or any ideas of what you would like to see in the next Congress, then please stop by my next town hall. I am looking forward to seeing you all there and having those conversations.

Once again, thanks for staying up to date with the work I am doing in Congress. Until next week…

Sincerely,
