State-run veterans cemeteries depend on federal grants through the VA to help with upkeep and operation costs. That's why I co-introduced the Veterans Cemetery Grants Improvement Act in Congress. This bill increases federal grant opportunities for veterans cemeteries, like the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. The Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery is the fifth busiest state-run veterans cemetery and hosts nearly 1,000 memorials each year.

I joined members of American Legion Post 171 in Union Grove to discuss the importance of the Veterans Cemetery Grants Improvement Act.

“Maintaining memorial ground that honors our service men and women is important. I fully support Congressman Steil’s effort to pass the Veterans Cemetery Grants Improvement Act. As a tribute to those who’ve served, we should care for the final resting place as a living remembrance to their service,” said State Representative Robert Wittke of Racine.
