News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

It is great to be back in D.C. and being here this past week has made me even more excited about all the work that is going get done in the 115th Congress. In one week we have already come together in the People’s House to make substantial improvements to our nation’s security and economy.

We Must Keep Tools of Terror Out of the Hands of Iran

This week the House passed several pieces of legislation that would make our nation-and the whole world safe and secure. First, we passed the Iran Sanction Extension Act, which would reauthorize necessary sanctions on Iran. By passing the Iran Sanction Extension Act, we will be able to hold Iran more accountable for their actions.

Additionally, the House passed H.R. 5711, which would prohibit the Department of the Treasury from allowing any financial transaction that would assist the export of commercial passenger aircrafts to Iran. By passing H.R. 5711, we will be keeping tools of terror out of the hands of Iran, so that they are unable to transport weapons to places like Syria, another major state sponsor of terror.

To learn more about the importance of this bill, watch my Ask Tom video below.

For too long this country has allowed Iran to commit unacceptable violations against their own people and the world, and I can assure you that this leniency has come to an end. Both of these pieces of legislation are proof of that.

Putting an End to a Regulation Nation

Many presidential administrations attempt to push rushed regulations into place before they officially leave office. These rushed regulations are known as Midnight Rules.

As you are likely aware, the Obama Administration has already enacted an enormous amount of regulations that have hurt hardworking American families. These regulations squash out innovation, kill jobs, and make it difficult for businesses to grow.

That is why this week we passed the Midnight Rules Relief Act. This legislation would prevent the current Administration, and future Administrations, from implementing last minute and careless regulations on hardworking American people.

Don’t Miss Out On This Great Opportunity!

The New Year is quickly approaching, which means that we are currently looking to hire interns. If you are a college student with an interest in the legislative process, click here and apply today!

Once again, thanks for staying up to date with the work I am doing for Minnesota’s Sixth District. Be sure to stay safe in the snow, and until next week!

Sincerely,
