News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends,

Last week, while Congress was out of session, I spent the week traveling the First District and meeting with constituents. It was an engaging and productive District Work Period hearing from constituents, highlighting recent progress on legislation I’ve introduced, and commemorating the legacy of a fellow Irishman.

Here is a quick recap of last week:

  • I held public forums with local elected officials in Cromwell and Bloomfield and attended an employee Town Hall at the Prudential in Hartford where we discussed how the Social Security 2100 Act will protect and enhance Social Security for current future generations of retirees. As Chairman of the Social Security Subcommittee, I recently held hearings on the future of Social Security. We discussed the hearings and had thoughtful dialogue on preserving Social Security at all three events.
  • On Tuesday, I joined Senator Blumenthal and East Hartford Mayor LeClerc at the beautiful Great River Park in East Hartford to underscore the importance of investing in infrastructure like the Hartford and East Hartford levees that protect our region from catastrophic flooding.
  • On Wednesday I met with members of my Veteran’s Advisory Council to discuss issues affecting veterans and, with National Vietnam War Veterans Day approaching, plan an event to recognize and honor Vietnam Veterans and their families.
  • Over the weekend I was honored to be joined by Irish Ambassador Daniel Mulhall, Filmmaker Maurice Fitzpatrick, and John Hume’s son, Aidan Hume for a film screening and panel discussion at Goodwin College on the film In the Name of Peace: John Hume in America. We celebrated the remarkable efforts of John Hume to bring peace to Ireland and had an engaging discussion about maintaining a lasting peace on the island.

Please stay tuned to my Facebook and Twitter pages to keep up to date on what’s happening in Washington. Hope to see you around soon!

Best Wishes,
