News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

I would like to begin by thanking everyone who came out on Saturday to help and celebrate our nation’s veterans at my Veterans Resource Fair. Our veterans have sacrificed so much for the country that we love, which is why I believe that we must help take care of them once they return home. It was wonderful to be surrounded by so many others who share this belief.

For me, one of the best parts of this event was recognizing someone who not only served our nation bravely during World War II, but has dedicated his life to serving other veterans after his own service. It was an absolute honor presenting Ken Langmade with a certificate thanking him for his dedicated service to his fellow veterans.

If there is ever anything that you think we can do to further assist or recognize our veterans, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office. We are always looking for more opportunities to do so.

Promoting Programs that will Benefit Minnesota’s Families

On Wednesday, I paid a visit to the Anoka County Library to speak at the Lights on Afterschool Arts and Crafts Event. The topic of discussion was the importance of afterschool programs to families in our state.

As the father of seven children, I know that our children and families would benefit greatly from afterschool programs. Not only do they help children perform better in school, but they also help parents balance their many responsibilities- including their most important responsibility: the care of their children. Overall, our children are the future- and afterschool programs are a great way to ensure that the future is a bright one for our state and nation!

ICYMI: Another Step Taken in the Fight Against Opioid Abuse

Unfortunately, an opioid epidemic is plaguing our nation and Minnesota has not been immune. It is devastating to learn about the many families torn apart by drugs, but what is perhaps more devastating is knowing that these drug related deaths may have been prevented if more treatment were available.

That is why I recently led a bipartisan letter encouraging the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to do everything in their current authority to expand access to treatment options for those fighting substance abuse disorders. We owe it to each and every individual fighting substance abuse to ensure that CMS does everything in their power to make treatment more effective and accessible. Once again, thank you for staying up to date with the work I am doing in Minnesota and Washington D.C. Until next week…
