News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

It is the most wonderful time of the year – the Minnesota State Fair is finally here! I have absolutely loved working in Minnesota for this entire month, and not just because of the State Fair. It is because of the hardworking Minnesotans that I get to meet and speak with every day. The events and the meetings that I had this week are a testament to that.

Striving for a Healthy Community

This past week I attended several events meant to educate children and their families on the importance of healthy habits. On Saturday, I attended the Rock Your Sole 5K run that was hosted by CentraCare, the YMCA, and Bernicks. This wonderful event was a great way to celebrate the decrease of childhood obesity in our community and for families to get out and exercise together.

This Monday, I had the chance to participate in a SNAP-Ed Cooking Matters Class for Kids. The University of Minnesota provides SNAP-Ed Programming across our state for low-income individuals and families. I quickly learned both how fun and educational SNAP-Ed Programming is when we baked oatmeal chunk cookies with healthy substitutions. As the father of seven, I understand how important it is to teach children healthy habits early on, and I am so thankful for our community’s organizations and businesses that strive to make this happen.

The Future of Farming

Farming is vital to Minnesota’s Sixth District, which is why I was happy to meet with the National Young Farmer’s Coalition on Thursday. This wonderful coalition strives to represent and encourage young farmers to better guarantee their success.

I believe that the agriculture industry is the backbone of Minnesota’s economy, so it is crucial to mentor and inspire the next generation of farmers to ensure our state’s future success. Additionally, I hosted a meeting with the Agriculture Coalition in Minnesota to talk how to better the agriculture industry in our state. It is encouraging to meet with so many people throughout the state with a vested interest in this important industry.

Wright County Town Hall

Earlier this week, I held my third town hall for the month of August. I really wanted to make myself available to the fine folks of Minnesota’s Sixth District during this district work period, and I think that town halls are the best way to do so. I was pleased to have such a great turnout and to be able to answer so many questions.

If you were unable to attend this particular event, make sure to click here to stay updated on future town halls.

Once again, thanks for staying updated on the work I am doing both in Minnesota and Washington D.C. Until next week…
