News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

August is my District Work Period, and this week I took full advantage of being back in my favorite place: Minnesota’s Sixth District. This week, I was lucky to have the opportunity to speak at the Minnesota Grocers Association Annual Conference, the U.S Global Leadership Coalition Luncheon and attend Minnesota’s Farm Fest.

Signed Into Law

I am incredibly proud to announce that my legislation to name the Collegeville Post Office after former Minnesota Senator Eugene McCarthy has been signed into law. Before his time as a public servant, Eugene McCarthy both attended and taught at St. John’s University, which is why it is appropriate that his lifetime of civic service be commemorated there.

I’m thrilled that my first piece of legislation to be signed into law honors an amazing Minnesotan, and I would like to thank both Senators Klobuchar and Franken for ensuring this legislation’s passage in the Senate.

Young Women Leadership Program: Round Two

On Wednesday, I was joined by an excellent group of young women for the second event of the Young Women Leadership Program. The event featured three panelists which included WCCO Radio host Roshini Rajkumar; Assistant Vice President of Government Relations at the Minneapolis Federal Reserve, Jean Hinz; and the Senior Policy Director at the Minnesota Corn Growers Association, Anna Boroff.

These professional women shared their personal stories, gave advice and answered many questions. It was another wonderful event! Great discussions were had and I am really looking forward to the third and final event later this month.

Time for Town Halls

Speaking of great discussions, on Thursday night I held another town hall in Washington County. I believe that town halls are an excellent way to catch up with the fine folks of Minnesota’s Sixth District, and last night was proof of that. I had the chance to hear firsthand many different questions and was happy to see so many familiar faces in the room.

Since I will be working in Minnesota for the entire month of August, and because last night’s town hall was such a success, I have decided to hold one more town hall at the end of August. My next town hall will be held in Wright County and I hope to see many of you there.

Date: August 23, 2016
Time: 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM
Location: Monticello Grand River Regional Library | 200 W. 6th Street, Monticello, MN

Once again, thank you so much for keeping up with the work I am doing in Minnesota and Washington. Until next week…

Sincerely,
