News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

This week was National Police Week, so I wanted to begin by thanking the men and women in blue for their dedicated service to this nation. Minnesota is home to many phenomenal law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line every day to ensure the safety and security of our communities. We cannot take their service for granted, which is why I spoke on the House Floor to honor our nation’s police officers.

National Defense Authorization Act

On Wednesday, the National Defense Authorization Act was brought before the House. This legislation would not only give our troops the pay raise they deserve, but it would fully fund over $2.5 billion in unfunded training and maintenance - which is critically needed by the military but goes unfunded in the President’s budget request.

If the President refuses to do what’s right for our troops, then it is our job in Congress to ensure that our troops have what they need so that they can successfully do their jobs and make it home safely, which is why I along with the majority of my colleagues in the House voted to pass this legislation. I sincerely hope that the Senate will pass this bill and send it to the President’s desk.

Time to CREATE Jobs

A few months ago, I introduced H.R. 4518, the CREATE Jobs Act. Currently, the United States’ corporate income tax is the highest in the world- causing jobs, people, and tax dollars to be sent overseas to countries that have more business friendly rates.

This crucial piece of legislation would help our nation’s future by encouraging the creation of more American jobs, increasing our GDP and raising wages for American workers. Last week, I had the opportunity to testify at the Ways and Means Tax Policy Subcommittee Member Day Hearing about this legislation. To learn more, click the video below.

Once again, thank you for staying updated on the work that I am doing for Minnesota’s Sixth District. Until next week…

Sincerely,
