Dear Friend,

As our community faces the economic hardships caused by this unprecedented public health emergency, my office stands ready to assist small businesses seeking economic relief during the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s why our office has opened a dedicated Small Business Hotline to assist Coastal Virginians who have questions about the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) rollout of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and advise local business owners seeking relief through programs established by the CARES Act.

Our Small Business Hotline puts you in direct contact with a member of my team who specializes in small business assistance and economic relief programs within the CARES Act. Small business owners in need of informational resources are encouraged to dial (757)-364-7632 for assistance.

Small businesses are instrumental to the success of our regional economy and the livelihoods of Coastal Virginians. We must give these businesses the assistance they need during this unprecedented health and economic emergency. Our hotline will provide local small business owners with a direct line of communication to my office so that we can give them the information and support they need.

Last month, I supported the CARES Act, which established the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). This program provides small businesses and nonprofits forgivable loans to cover payroll and other costs over an eight-week period. Unfortunately, the execution of this program has been problematic and local business owners and banks are reporting issues with the loan submission process. As a result, business owners are experiencing delays in receiving their loans at a time when every day counts.

As a former small business owner, I empathize with the frustrations felt by small business owners. Many businesses need loans now, and these delays are unacceptable. That is why I sent a letter to SBA Administrator Carranza seeking answers and clarity.

Please know that during this trying time, my team and I stand ready to serve our community. In addition to our Small Business Hotline, I have compiled an FAQ for small business owners here.
