News from Representative Carson

March 20, 2020

Dear Friend,

I'd like to provide you with an update on my most recent work to protect our community and our nation in the wake of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

This week, President Trump signed into law the 'Families First Coronavirus Response Act,' the House-originated relief package that we passed last week. It provides free testing, expanded unemployment insurance for Americans who are out of work, expanded food security programs, and more. This comes after our first package passed earlier this month that provided more than $8 billion in COVID-19 relief efforts.

The House is now drafting a third relief package, and we'll make sure these provisions continue to focus first and foremost on workers, not corporations, and protecting public health.

Meanwhile, I have been in Indianapolis this week doing my part to help Hoosiers get through this crisis. I continue to communicate with local and state officials to make sure we are working together to respond as quickly and effectively as possible.

I was thankful to visit Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, where I helped provide food delivery for folks in need. With so many people hurting economically, organizations like food banks are playing a major role in helping Hoosiers weather this storm. I'll keep working to make sure they have all the support they need to help support others.

Above all else, we must make sure we are slowing the spread of this virus. We all have a crucial role to play in this goal. Everyone should stay at home as much as possible, practice social distancing, heed the advice of public health experts, maintain good hygiene, and stay informed. If we all answer this call to action, we can save countless lives.
