News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

This week was spent in the place I love most - Minnesota. It was another district work week and we spent it crisscrossing the district meeting with Minnesotans from all walks of life.

I visited with the City Councils in St. Joseph and East Bethel, and even met a young man who attended one of these meetings to fulfill his Boy Scout assignment of community involvement.

I toured Life Fitness and met with the Midwest Dairy Association.

And on Thursday, I joined a wonderful group of students at Christ Community Lutheran School for National Day of Prayer.

Representing the land of hockey in Washington

As many of you likely know, I have played hockey, coached hockey, and am an avid fan of hockey. I recently sat down with the House GOP Conference to chat about growing up in Minnesota and what hockey means to me.

I was also featured in Roll Call's Heard on the Hill about the video and the NHL Playoffs.

Art Competition winners

This week we announced the winners of the Congressional Art Competition in Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District. This competition is held annually for high school students across the country. The winning piece of artwork will be displayed in the Capitol hallways for the Representatives and visiting constituents to view for the rest of the year.

First place was awarded to Esther Stoy, a sophomore at Blaine High School, for her watercolor piece titled “Elisha.” Esther is the daughter of John and Suzanne Stoy of Blaine, Minnesota. The art teacher at Blaine High School is Pat Undis.

Second place was awarded to Kaitlin Bartlett, a senior at Blaine High School, for her color pencil piece titled “Ethelda.” Kaitlin is the daughter of Jim and Pam Bartlett of Blaine, Minnesota.

Third place was awarded to Veronica Mahnke, a sophomore at Forest Lake High School, for her photograph titled “Under the Ice.” Veronica is the daughter of Doug and Michelle Mahnke of Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota. The art teacher at Forest Lake High School is Barry Zumwalde.

I am in complete awe of the incredible amount of talent that we have in Minnesota’s Sixth District. We received a lot of amazing pieces of art and it was no easy task deciding on the winning submissions. Thank you to all of the students who participated in this competition for keeping the arts alive in our district.

Deadline approaching: Young Women Leadership Program

Our deadline for applications to Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District Young Women Leadership Program is rapidly approaching.

This exciting program allows for high school girls to meet and interact with professional women in the great state of Minnesota who have built successful careers or hold leadership roles in government, business, media and other occupations.

Participants in this program will take part in open roundtable discussions with their peers and women professionals, all while sharing insights, guidance, and stories.

If you know of any young women in the Sixth District who may be interested, please click here to learn more.

Once again, thank you for keeping up with the work I do for Minnesota’s Sixth District. Until next week…
