July 26, 2019

Dear Friend,

The August district work period is about to begin, and I'm looking forward to spending more time at home in Indianapolis, meeting with Hoosiers and sharing updates about my work on issues of importance to our community and our nation.

A top priority that must be fully addressed is election security. This week, Director Robert Mueller testified before my committee, House Intelligence, about the findings of his report into Russia's interference in the 2016 election. He made very clear the need to protect our elections from future attempts to influence the outcome. The Senate Intelligence Committee's report, released yesterday, drives this point home by showing that the Russians targeted election systems in every state in America. The House made important progress by passing the SAFE Act (H.R. 2722), which helps protect our election infrastructure from future attacks, but we need to do more. I'll keep working hard to safeguard our Democracy from these grave threats.

We also must work to safeguard the programs Americans rely on to thrive. Two of them, Medicare and Medicaid, will be celebrating their 54th birthday in a few days. As we celebrate the achievements of these two lifelines, we should also recommit ourselves to protecting Social Security, which so many Hoosiers rely on as a bedrock of retirement income. Our seniors have worked hard for this benefit, and we owe it to them to keep the program strong and solvent. I will continue to fight against any effort to cut or privatize this program. Congress must protect Social Security, and make sure it is not weakened as the federal deficit continues to rise as a result of the GOP tax cuts.

And finally, I wanted to let you know that I'll be hosting my tenth annual Central Indiana Job Fair on Thursday, August 8th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. For a decade now, I've been honored to connect hard-working Hoosiers with quality employers at this helpful event. If you're looking for a job, or just want to learn more about career opportunities in our community, I encourage you to attend. It's all happening at Ivy Tech Culinary and Conference Center, located at 2820 N. Meridian Street in Indianapolis.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Your Friend,

André
