Alzheimer's Association Town Hall

This week I spoke with seniors in Warren County at a town hall meeting hosted by the Alzheimer's Association. We discussed my support of the Health Outcomes, Planning, and Education (HOPE) for Alzheimer’s Act and the Community-Based Independence for Seniors Act--legislation that will have a major impact on individuals with Alzheimer's and their families.

I also spoke to the group about my work to protect and strengthen Medicare and Social Security. I am working to lower healthcare costs for seniors and improve quality and accessibility, especially in rural areas.

Our district has one of the highest concentrations of senior citizens in New York and ensuring that our seniors have affordable and reliable healthcare is a top priority.

Thank you to all who attended for the lively discussion and great questions!

FEMA Grant Workshop

I also co-hosted a workshop with the Federal Emergency Management Agency for North Country fire departments.

My offices are pleased to serve our North Country community, and one important way we can help is by assisting with the federal grants process. Federal funding can be an arduous and complicated task, and these workshops provide tools, additional information and guidance to help make our fire departments and EMS agencies as competitive as possible. In New York’s 21st district, we are grateful for our brave first responders and I am pleased that my office is providing this valuable service.

If you need help with obtaining a grant or assistance with a federal agency, please contact our offices listed at the bottom of this email.

Fort Drum Boys & Girls Club

At Fort Drum this week, I was pleased to join military youth and their parents at an event for the Fort Drum Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Program.

Fort Drum Youth Programs has been chosen by  UnitedHealth Group and Boys & Girls Clubs of America to participate in a pilot program for military youth resiliency.

The program is centered around creating an interactive mobile app and online platform geared towards helping military youth and families work through difficult transitions by teaching them to approach challenges with a positive, resilient attitude. During the event, I had an opportunity to demo this app alongside kids at Fort Drum and it was wonderful to see how much they enjoyed the experience.

Catholic Charities Meeting

This week I also had the chance to sit down with Paul McAvoy and Vincent Colonno from the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany to get an update on some of their projects in the North Country. We spoke about their family counseling and domestic violence programs as well as the work they do with at-risk youth in Saratoga, Warren and Washington counties.

As always, thank you for subscribing to my weekly updates!

Sincerely,

Elise Stefanik
Member of Congress
