News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Easter weekend with your family and loved ones! I definitely enjoyed my day with Jacquie and our children. After the holiday, my week was spent back in the district where I was busy with meetings, interviews, and introducing an exciting new opportunity for young women in my district.

Launched the Young Women Leadership Program

As many of you are aware, March was Women’s History Month, and in order to give this month the full recognition that it deserves, I dedicated one of my weekly Ask Toms and wrote an article on Medium about some of this nation’s trailblazing women. In both my speech and article, I highlighted both Minnesotan women and women who I work with here in the House of Representatives, and the incredible accomplishments they have achieved so that the generation of tomorrow has the chance to follow in their footsteps.

On Thursday, the last day of Women’s History Month, my office announced the first ever Young Women Leadership Program for Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District, which will begin during the summer of 2016. This program will allow high school girls to learn firsthand about different career options from professional women who have built successful careers and hold or have held leadership roles in government, business, media, and other fields. Participants of this program will be able to take part in open roundtable discussions with their peers and women professionals, all while hearing stories, receiving guidance, and gaining valuable insights.

I am incredibly excited about this upcoming program and was proud to introduce it during Women’s History Month. This program is another perfect way to recognize the contributions and accomplishments that have been made by women leaders across Minnesota, but also a great way to foster the growth of the women leaders of tomorrow. Minnesota is home to so many accomplished professional women, and I want to ensure that a younger generation of women has the opportunity to learn and grow from their experiences. ICYMI: Mobile Office Hours

If you were to ask me what I thought was the most important aspect of my role as a Congressman, I would answer constituent service. That is why I am proud that my office has so many caseworkers, dedicated to serving the people of Minnesota’s Sixth District.

An important service that my office offers is help with a federal agency. If you are having issues with a federal agency- whether you have been unable to get an answer in a timely manner or feel like you have been treated unfairly, my office’s caseworkers may be able to resolve the problem, or give you the answers that you need. In order to get the word out about this vital service, and to become more accessible to the people in the district, my office started mobile office hours. Sincerely,
