News from Representative Steil

This week, we lost two police officers, Racine Police Officer John Hetland and Milwaukee Police Officer Kou Her. My prayers are with their families and friends, and the law enforcement community grieving this loss. Members of law enforcement risk their lives every day to protect our communities. We must remember their service.

PASSED: My Amendment to Support Wisconsin Dairy Farmers

My budget-neutral amendment to provide $1.5 million to help dairy farmers passed the House. I've visited farms across Southeast Wisconsin and time and time again, farmers have explained to me the challenges they have with consistently low milk prices. That's why we need this amendment: to invest in business development within the dairy industry and encourage new markets for our farmers. Click above to watch my speech on this amendment!

“Dairy Business Association and our affiliated organization, Edge Dairy Farmer Co-op, are very appreciative of Representative Steil's work to properly fund the Dairy Business Innovation Initiatives. These are challenging times for dairy farmers, and we cannot recover by merely doing more of the same. Innovation to help take the dairy community in a new direction is what we need; this funding and these initiatives are key parts of that,” said John Holevoet from Dairy Business Association and Edge Dairy Farm Cooperative.

“At a time of serious economic crisis in the dairy industry, the Dairy Business Innovation Initiative is an important program that strives to increase dairy farm profitability, and encourage dairy manufacturers to diversify from commodity products into value-added items like specialty cheese,” said UW-Madison Professor John Lucey, Director of the Wisconsin Center for Dairy Research.

PASSED: My Amendment to Increase Veteran Suicide Prevention Resources for America's Heroes

My second budget-neutral amendment passed the House of Representatives. This amendment provides $1 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs' suicide prevention and treatment programs. Southeast Wisconsin is home to more than 45,000 veterans and we must be there for them. June is PTSD Awareness Month. Veterans should not have to suffer and go through this battle alone. USMCA Supports Wisconsin Farmers and Workers

Click above to learn why the USMCA is important for Wisconsin

The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) supports workers and farmers in Wisconsin, expands access to international markets, and strengthens our partnership with Mexico and Canada. Mexico ratified the USMCA this week. It's time for Congress to do its job and vote on USMCA.
