News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

Once again, my time in D.C. was very busy, and it was absolutely fantastic to see all the Minnesotans who flew out for meetings this week!

A Voice for our Veterans

This week I had a chance to meet with the American Legion Department of Minnesota and the Disabled Veterans of America.

It is always a pleasure meeting with the men and women who served and sacrificed for our liberties and freedom. These groups do impressive work and I am so thankful for what they are doing for Minnesota’s veterans. Many things were discussed in these meetings, but we primarily focused on ensuring veterans receive the quality care they deserve once they return home. One of the biggest injustices that this country faces is the treatment of our veterans, and I will work to make certain that veterans receive the services they need for as long as I am in office. Discussing Transportation Solutions

I had multiple meetings with County Commissioners from all over Minnesota’s Sixth District, including delegations from Stearns, Washington and Anoka Counties. Additionally, I attended and spoke at the Minnesota Counties Legislative Annual Conference breakfast.

The main topic of conversation by far was transportation issues in Minnesota’s Sixth District. Since taking office, one of my top priorities has been working to find solutions to provide for a reliable and efficient transportation system, which is why I co-sponsored the FAST Act last year. This law will help states plan and start projects that improve and strengthen this nation’s many roads, highways and bridges – including those in Minnesota that desperately need help. I would like to thank all of the Delegations for coming out to Washington and discussing transportation solutions with me.

Ask Tom about National Security

If you have watched the news or picked up a newsletter recently, you likely have an unsettling outlook on what is going on in the world today. Like you, I believe that nothing is more important than the safety and security of the American people and it is clear that more must be done to protect our citizens. And the Winner Is…

I would like to give a huge shout out to the winners of the Congressional App Challenge! Congratulations Shihab Ahmed and Omar Qureshi of Blaine, and their partners Furqan and Maha Syed, all students at Mounds View High School.

The Congressional App Challenge is an annual challenge hosted by the House of Representatives that is intended to encourage U.S. high school students to develop important science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills. The world that we live in today is constantly changing and improving as a result of the evolving technology industry. In order for the United States to remain competitive, it is vital that our students take an active interest in these STEM skills, and I commend these impressive students for doing so.

Thanks for staying updated on my work here in Washington, and until next week…
