Dear Andrew,

From fighting for military families to voting on legislation that would create a fair economy for all Coastal Virginians, it was a busy week in Congress. I am excited to tell you about my week! Scroll down for a recap.

Getting Results for Coastal Virginians

I am happy to announce that my office has helped recover over $1.3 million owed to constituents from federal agencies such as the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Social Security Administration.

Being an effective resource for our community is my top priority. In our office, we strive to provide exceptional service and timely results. Whether federal payments are delayed or constituents are caught in endless bureaucratic red tape, my team wakes up every morning ready to solve problems and ensure our government works for Coastal Virginians.

This year, our office has had the pleasure of resolving 154 cases for constituents. As a team dedicated to serving you, we're delighted to surpass the $1 million milestone, but our work has only just begun. Please don't hesitate to reach out if we can assist!

Helping Coastal Virginians Who Serve Our Country

I was pleased by the House's bipartisan passage of the Citizenship for Children of Military Members and Civil Servants Act.

Coastal Virginians serving our country overseas in the military or foreign service often face daunting bureaucratic hurdles when their children are born abroad. The Citizenship for Children of Military Members and Civil Servants Act addresses many of those challenges by guaranteeing that these children will automatically satisfy residency requirements for becoming an American citizen.

I urge the Senate to pass this important legislation which will give many American families peace of mind about the status of their children's citizenship. These families deserve to be spared from the paperwork and bureaucratic headaches of the current system.

Cracking Down on Irritating Robocalls

Last Wednesday, I voted to pass the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act. This bipartisan bill will provide relief to millions of Americans who are threatened by the abusive practices of robocalls.

With 54 billion robocalls being made this year, it is clear that robocalls are a rapidly growing security threat. Many of these calls are outright scams that seek to steal recipients' personal information and money. The TRACED ACT would combat these fraudulent calls by giving the Federal Communications Commission the tools to hold these scammers accountable.

For many Coastal Virginians, robocalls are more than just a nuisance, they are predatory scams. Robocallers steal money and sensitive information from too many hardworking families. I am proud to join lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to combat this growing epidemic.

Mobile Office Hours in Virginia Beach

Our team is hosting mobile office hours in Virginia Beach on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. We are eager to assist you with federal issues including Social Security, veterans' affairs, Medicaid, and more. Come to the Tidewater Community College / City of Virginia Beach Joint-Use Library on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for help!

Creating an Economy That Works for All Coastal Virginians.

Recently, I voted for the Insider Trading Prohibition Act, which would explicitly ban the practice of insider trading.

Insider trading is when an investor inappropriately uses nonpublic information to influence his or her decisions on buying or selling securities. This unethical practice allows financial insiders and those who wrongfully obtained nonpublic information to profit at the expense of average investors.

Banning insider trading is critical to ensuring a fair economy that works for all Coastal Virginians. The millions of Americans who make investments to fund their retirements, savings, and education for their children should not be discouraged by the fear of a market that only works for select insiders. I am pleased to vote for this bill that will close loopholes that have been exploited for too long.

Currently, there is no federal law that explicitly defines or bans insider trading. This lack of clarity presents difficulties in proving and prosecuting insider trading cases. The Insider Trading Prohibition Act addresses this ambiguity by codifying and clarifying existing principles on insider trading set forth by courts.

Virginians Can Now Replace Social Security Cards Online

I am glad to hear that Virginians are now able to order replacement Social Security cards online, thanks to a partnership between the DMV and Social Security Administration.

Previously, people who needed to replace their Social Security card had to gather many required documents and complete an application in person at a Social Security Office. Now, Virginians who meet a few basic requirements, and have a Virginia driver's license may visit to send their application online!

This week, students from York High School came to tour the U.S. Capitol. I was glad to meet so many future leaders and to provide passes to the U.S. House Chamber Gallery to watch debate and votes on the House floor.

I enjoyed telling you about my week and I look forward to telling you about many more! Please follow my official Facebook and Twitter pages, and check out our website.
