News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

A new year always means one thing: the annual State of the Union Address. On Tuesday night, President Obama gave his eighth and final State of the Union Address to an eager nation.

Working for the Generation of Tomorrow

The President addressed many important issues in his speech, largely focusing on the future of this great country. While the President and I do not agree on everything, we do agree that we must work towards a better and brighter future – a future that we want our children and grandchildren to inherit. This year I was honored to be joined by Dr. Daniel Bittman as my guest for this year’s State of the Union. The President’s speech focused on the future of this country, which is exactly why I invited Dr. Bittman, who was recently named Minnesota’s 2016 Superintendent of the Year. He is working for the generation of tomorrow in Central Minnesota, and we need to be working for that generation of tomorrow in Congress as well.

An Intrusive Rule

On Wednesday, the House passed a resolution of disapproval regarding the Environmental Protection Agency’s unconstitutional Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule, which currently awaits action from the President. The Obama Administration claimed that this rule would benefit our country, but instead, it is yet another burdensome, overreach by this executive. Like all Minnesotans, I believe that we need to be good stewards of our land and streams, but I firmly oppose WOTUS as the means to do so.

Under this bureaucratic overreach, the EPA gains the power to intervene in American’s ability to control their own land, including the land of farmers and ranchers. Our nation’s farmers and ranchers are the backbone of our society, and they cannot be burdened by this intrusive rule.
