News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday filled with food, family and friends. After spending the holiday weekend with my wife and children, I returned to Washington in high gear, because as usual, there was a lot on the agenda.

Spreading Holiday Cheer

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! While the holidays are a time to spend with family and loved ones, it is important to remember that not everyone gets to be home for the holidays.

That is why I joined the Red Cross to sit down and write holiday cards for our troops and service members. We must all remember the sacrifices that our troops make, including the personal sacrifices they make this time of year.

Keeping Minnesotans Moving

When I meet and speak with constituents, they often express their concern for Minnesota’s roads, bridges and highways.

For this reason, Congress came together this week and passed the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act, otherwise known as the FAST Act. I am proud to have voted in favor of this legislation, which will put Minnesotans back in charge of their transportation system. If you are interested in learning more about how this bill will improve Minnesota’s infrastructure, click here to watch my Ask Tom video.

Unfair to Minnesotans

On December 1st, the House of Representatives passed two resolutions of disapproval, which I cosponsored, regarding the President’s Clean Power Plan. These resolutions would nullify the rule put out by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which attempts to cut carbon emissions using state-by-state targets. The final numbers set forth in the Clean Power Plan unfairly fail to recognize all the successful work Minnesota has already done in reducing emissions.

The Clean Power Plan will have devastating consequences on the economy of Minnesota, and the Sixth Congressional District, due to our large manufacturing sector. Like all Minnesotans, I whole heartedly agree that we must be responsible stewards of our environment, but doing so while still allowing for maximum economic benefit. Let’s Talk About…

I would like to thank everyone who participated in my tele-town hall this past Tuesday. I was hired by the people of Minnesota’s Sixth District, so it is very important to me that I am able to speak with my constituents and hear all of their concerns. I think that great questions were asked and productive conversations were had.

If you missed me on Tuesday, then be sure to catch my Twitter town hall this upcoming Monday. I will be livestreaming on my YouTube channel at 2:00 PM Central Time. If you are interested in asking a question, be sure to do so via Facebook, my website, or on Twitter with the hashtag #AskTom.

Thanks for reading my newsletter, and until next week.

Sincerely,
