News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

This past week has been an exceptional one for my family and me. On Saturday, my son Bobby proposed to his high school sweetheart, Kara. Jacquie and I are so excited for the happy couple, and we cannot wait for Kara to officially be a part of our family!

Recognizing Our Heroes

Every year on November 11th our country takes the time to celebrate the brave men and women who put their lives on the line in order to protect the freedoms and liberties of all Americans.

One reason this nation is so great is because we have so many countrymen who are willing to pledge their lives to our defense. Everyday, we benefit from their heroism so it is our duty to ensure that these veterans receive the recognition that they deserve once they return home.

I was happy that I got to celebrate Veterans Day here in Minnesota. I joined events at St. Michael-Albertville High School and St. Thomas Military Academy where I was able to thank many Minnesota veterans for their service.

In honor of Veterans Day, I decided to dedicate my weekly Ask Tom video to our nation’s heroes. Click here to watch now.

Mission Accomplished

When I first took office back in January, we decided that it was important that I remain both transparent and accessible to the people of Minnesota’s Sixth District. That is why after taking office, we promised to hold an in-person town hall in every county during my first year as Congressman.

I am proud to say that this goal was accomplished after my town hall this past Monday in Wright County. I would like to thank everyone who has shown up to one of my twelve town halls this past year. I truly appreciate your support and I look forward to seeing you all soon!

A Disappointing Decision

Last Friday, President Obama rejected the Keystone XL Pipeline. I joined the majority of Americans in my disappointment with this decision. In addition to creating jobs and allowing for energy independence, this pipeline would have helped alleviate some of the rail transportation problems that occur in Minnesota, particularly within the Sixth District.

I have been a huge advocate for the Keystone Pipeline, so much so that the first speech I gave in Congress – on my third day - was in support of it. To watch my speech, click here.

ICYMI: The Congressional App Challenge

Last week, my office announced its participation in the Congressional App Challenge. This challenge encourages high school students to compete against their classmates in creating their own software application for mobile devices, better known as an app. My staff and I are very excited about this challenge because it inspires students to improve their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) skills, which are becoming more and more important in our constantly developing world. Thanks for reading my weekly newsletter. I hope you and your family have a wonderful week, and until next Friday…
