Dear Friend,

It’s good to be back in Coastal Virginia for the District Work Period! Here is a recap of everything that happened throughout the last week.

Securing a Pay Raise for Veterans

I am happy to announce that that the President has signed into law my bipartisan bill bringing a much-needed pay raise to American veterans.

Starting on December 1st, my Veterans’ Compensation Cost of Living Act will provide a cost-of-living increase for wartime disability compensation that mirrors the same increase as Social Security.

It’s a privilege to come to Congress and deliver much-needed support to our nation’s bravest men and women. Providing quality benefits to our veterans and their dependents can change lives.

Through this legislation, Congress is honoring its commitment to American heroes who served in harm’s way so that our nation can live in peace at home.

Connecting with Coastal Virginians at Last Week’s Town Hall

On Thursday night at New Hope Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, I fielded questions from constituents during our latest town hall. It was wonderful to engage with everyone, answer so many insightful and thoughtful questions, and point constituents toward helpful government agencies.

I truly cannot thank everyone enough who made our town hall possible. I am especially grateful to the Virginia Beach Police Department for providing security and safety at the event, and to New Hope Baptist Church for lending us their beautiful space.

Town halls are one of my favorite events to host because they allow me to connect with our community. While time constraints prevented me from answering every question, I look forward to sending responses soon.

Meeting with VA Leadership to Advocate to Push for Better Care

Recently, I met with David Collins, the new director of the Hampton VA Medical Center. We had a productive conversation about improving access for patient care, reducing wait times, and increasing patient satisfaction for veterans living in the Hampton Roads region.

It’s clear that this change in leadership can have a positive impact for veterans in our community. I look forward to regularly meeting with Director Collins to ensure that our local veterans receive the best possible care.

Opening New Doors for Veterans

On Friday, I had the opportunity to attend and speak at the Grow with Google & United Service Organizations (USO) Training in Virginia Beach. At this event, representatives from USO and Google facilitated networking opportunities and workshops to help veterans and their families develop skills, find jobs, and grow their careers.

During my speech at the event, I discussed the importance of supporting our transitioning servicemembers, veterans, and military families.

It was great seeing a service organization join forces with private industry to help our most heroic men and women. In today’s economy, it’s so important that we give veterans the resources they need to find fulfilling employment.

On a fun Friday night, I attended the Kellam-Cox high school football game where I watched our talented #VA02 athletes and caught up with friends on both sides of the field.

I enjoyed meeting with leadership of the Virginia Beach Volunteer Squad and thanking them for all that they do for our community.

It was awesome to meet with my fellow U.S. Naval Academy alumni in Williamsburg! Duty, honor, and loyalty have never been more important.
