Dear Friend,
The Department of Veterans' Affairs (VA) and the Treasury have partnered to ensure American veterans receive their Economic Impact Payments swiftly and without additional action. I am pleased to share that veterans and their families who receive compensation or pension benefits from the VA will automatically receive their Economic Impact Payments.
For most Americans and for veterans receiving payments automatically, no action will be required to receive a payment. The IRS has not provided a timeline on when veterans can expect their payments, but you can check the status of your check using the IRS secure payment portal available here.
If you did not file a tax return in 2018 or 2019 and have a dependent child under the age of 17 years old, you will need to take additional action to receive the supplemental dependent payment of $500. You can register your information using the IRS Non-Filers Portal to update your information before Wednesday, April 22.
Our hospitals and VA medical facilities continue their concerted efforts to contain this virus and provide critical care to the sick. At this time, the VA has circulated guidelines for using their services during the pandemic which can be found at VA.gov. If you are exhibiting symptoms of the novel coronavirus, such as coughing, shortness of breath, or fever, please call your healthcare provider first. You can also send a secure message to your doctor though MyHealtheVet.
