Dear Friend,

After crisscrossing Coastal Virginia during an active District Work Period, I am marking eight months in office! During this time, I’ve enjoyed making our strong presence known in the Hampton Roads region. In particular, my team is honored to provide outstanding constituent service to Virginians.

Throughout these eight months, my staff and I hosted or attended 883 meetings with Virginians, recovered $617,339 for constituents, and sent 17,796 response letters to Virginians on legislative issues. Whether it’s expediting passports, helping recover federal benefits, or assisting veterans, my top priority is being an effective resource for all of Coastal Virginia. You deserve having your issues and concerns addressed in a timely manner. I stand ready to help!

Across the board, my team and I work hard every day to provide the best possible results for our community. We recently published stories of my staff's services on our new "Constituent Testimonials" web page. Please let us know if we can extend assistance to you on Social Security, Medicare, IRS issues, passports and visas, small business assistance, federal grants and loans, and more!

In Congress, I will keep working hard for Hampton Roads. So far I have introduced 10 bills, including two the House passed as standalone bills, one the House passed as part of a larger bill, and one that became law. The topics of that legislation ranged from putting more money in the pockets of veterans to helping Gold Star Families to honoring a heroic victim of the May 31 mass shooting in Virginia Beach.

I also cosponsored 229 pieces of legislation - 79 percent of which are bipartisan - such as bills to prohibit offshore drilling, strengthen civil rights laws, and improve military housing.

As a 20-year Navy veteran who retired at the rank of commander, I have kept an active presence as a leader on the House Armed Services Committee and House Veterans' Affairs Committee. Throughout committee hearings, I challenged top military officials, highlighted the perils of military sexual trauma, and brought other critical issues to light.

I enjoyed telling you about these eight months and I look forward to telling you about many more! Please follow my official Facebook and Twitter pages, and check out our website.

It’s the honor of my lifetime to serve you and Virginia’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. As always, you have my word that I will continue working hard each day, and I welcome your thoughts!
