Doing
More
I
was
recently
asked
"What
is
one
thing
King
County
residents
can
do
to
make
this
a
better
County
or
world?"
The
articles
below
showcase
current
County
initiatives
and
other
programs
and
conversations
that
demonstrate
what
we
can
do
when
we
work
together
to
make
a
better
King
County.
Getting
Started
on
Best
Starts
for
Kids
Last
November,
the
voters
of
King
County
approved
the
Best
Starts
for
Kids
Levy.
Over
the
next
few
weeks,
my colleagues and
l
will
be
considering
and
approving
the
spending
plan
for
strategies
to
make
sure
our
kids
are
getting
the
best
start
possible.
The
initiative
allows
a
comprehensive
approach
to
childhood
development
in
the
nation
and
was
the
plan
was
put
together
with
lots
of
input
from
community
members,
human
service
agencies
and
cities
within
King
County
truly
a
joint
effort. Continue

Helping
those
who
help
others
Since
1995,
the
Council
has
donated
used
vans
to
nonprofit
organizations.
The
vans
are
former
county
vanpool
vehicles
that
have
been
“retired”
after
accruing
a
certain
number
of
miles.
This
year,
we
delivered
vans
to
four
incredible
Eastside
agencies:
LifeWire,
the
Boys
and
Girls
Clubs
of
Mercer
Island
and
Bellevue
as
well
as
HeroHouse!

Lake
Sammamish
Transition
Zone
Upgrades
For
several
years,
the
residents
around
Lake
Sammamish
have
experienced
high
water
levels,
submerged
docks
and
property
damage,
especially
during
storms.
At
the
King
County Flood
Control
District
(FCD),
we
are
advancing
the
Willowmoor
project
to
alleviate
these
high
water
impacts.
The
Willowmoor
project
will
re-design
the
transition
zone
in
Marymoor
Park
where
the
lake
drains
into
the
Sammamish
River. As
a
member
of
the
FCD
Executive
Committee,
I
was
happy
to
vote
to
select
a
project
alternative
that
has
broad
support
in
the
community
and
which
will
protect
lake
side
property
while
improving
the
habitat
for
salmon. Continue

Sound
Transit
Board
Adopts
ST3
Last
month,
the
Sound
Transit
Board
of
Directors
approved
a
measure
for
Sound
Transit's
long
range
transit
plan
for
the
November
ballot. As
your
Sound
Transit
representative
on
the
Board,
I
spent
much
of
my
time
over
the
past
several
months
meeting
with
individuals,
constituents,
community
and
elected
leaders
on
the
Eastside
to
identify
a
package
of
transit
investments
to
connect
major
destinations
on
the
Eastside. Continue
