District Update |October 20, 2019

Dear Friend,

I wanted to update you on this past week working in Washington, D.C. Here is a look into some of the work we did and upcoming events for you to join in our community.

Hearing on Lowing Prescription Drug Prices

The Ways and Means Committee held a hearing on the "Soaring Cost of Prescription Drugs." This hearing was to prepare for H.R. 3, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's drug pricing plan. There is a revolution in pharmaceuticals right now that we must be preparing for. The proposed plan would not allow us to future-proof our healthcare for the coming advancements, limiting our access to potentially curable drugs.

We need to focus on lowering drug prices in a bipartisan manner. I especially believe the solution needs to foster the development of innovative drugs and adoption of creative payment methods that will help cure our brothers and sisters with chronic conditions. I look forward to working with my colleagues and being a part of the solution to ensure that we do not stifle innovation or limit patient access to new treatments.

Arizona Vietnam Veterans Honor Flight

A group of Arizona Vietnam Veterans made their way to our nation’s capital for an Honor Flight to see the memorials in Washington, D.C.

I met with the Veterans at the Air Force Memorial in Arlington and heard about their service to our country. These brave men and women are American heroes and I am forever grateful for their service.

The gentleman in the wheelchair, Mr. Thomas Collins III, was a POW for 7 and 1/2 years at the Hanoi Hilton. Mr. Collins, and this group of veterans, reminds us all that we must never forget the battle of each service member during the Vietnam War, or those who did not return safely to their families.

Thank you all for including me on your trip to Washington, D.C. and for your unforgettable service to our country.

DEA Prescription Drug Take Back Day

This Saturday, October 26th, the Drug Enforcement Administration will be hosting a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. From 10 AM to 2 PM, Arizonans will be able to visit various locations across town to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs.

Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame Inductees

On October 18th, the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame welcomed a new class of 22 veterans in an induction ceremony. Each of these veterans were honored for their military service, and their work continuing to serve and inspire fellow Americans to work in their community.

Arizona's 6th District has two veterans who were recognized: Ms. Paula Pedene and Mr. Michael Wold.

There are so many dedicated public servants and members of the military in our community. Congratulations to each of the veterans inducted into the Hall of Fame!
