District Update |October 13, 2019

Dear Friend,

Olivia and I stayed busy this week in between meetings in Arizona. First we attended the Arizona State Fair, where we explored around to visit with all of the animals. Next up, we went to get our flu shots.

It is best to get your flu vaccine before the end of October to ensure the best protection. If the smile on Olivia's face means anything, getting your flu shot really isn't too scary!

Now, I would like to take this chance to update you on the some of the work we did in Arizona this past week.

Protecting Our Ally, Israel

I joined my colleague from Illinois, Congressman Schneider, in writing a letter to United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer regarding steel and aluminum tariffs on Israel.

Ensuring that our greatest ally in the region is treated similarly to other key allies is important to show our seriousness and commitment to the Jewish state. Anyone who is familiar with the important work our two countries do together on the Iron Dome and other important mutual defense technologies knows that Israel is a trusted ally and friend. As Israel is a small country, the quantity of the trade is irrelevant; the important part here is treating our ally fairly

Youth Legislative Day

I had a great time speaking at the first ever SRPMIC Youth Legislative Day. We discussed the importance of our youth becoming involved in our community and how they can become more civically active.

Community engagement is a great way to bring young people together. Thank you for inviting me to join you in discussion.

UPS Educating Our Community

UPS hosted an event at our local Boys and Girls Club Community Center in Scottsdale to show us the work they have done through their UPS Road Code Program.

The Road Code Program was developed to partner with local UPS employees and have them educate youth about motor vehicle safety, as motor vehicle accidents are the largest threat for people ages 15-29.

Thank you, UPS, for the work you are doing to help educate and foster relationships for youth in Scottsdale. It was great to learn more about this program and meet with you all.

Medicare Open Enrollment

This week, starting Tuesday, Medicare will begin their annual Open Enrollment period. If you are a senior currently enrolled in Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage Plan, you will be eligible from October 15th to December 7th to make changes to various aspects of your coverage.

Our office works with constituents every day to ensure they are receiving the correct benefits for their Medicare eligibility. Recently, our constituent Mr. Malin from Scottsdale came to us after noticing he was dropped from his Part D Medicare Coverage Plan due to an auto-pay error and he needed to be reinstated in his prescription drug coverage.

After working with the Medicare and Social Security Administration, we were able to get Mr. Malin reinstated in his program, which gives him the chance to change his coverage in the upcoming Open Enrollment period. If you, or someone you know, needs help with Federal Agency Casework, please feel welcome to call our Scottsdale office so we can help assist you with the matter.

I appreciate you taking the time to read my weekly E-Newsletter. If you would like to contact me, please feel welcome to browse my website for the different services our office can help you with.
