Happy Friday –

We’ve made it to the end of the week once again. I’m back home in Arizona for the weekend, where I’m happy to be out of the cold of the east coast. I am not happy, however, that Democrats would rather send their members home on Wednesday afternoon with a government spending deadline quickly approaching – not to mention a border that is still compromised. What will it take for Democrats to understand their responsibility to secure our southern border?

Reporting from the Southern Border

Speaking of the border, the podcast this week is with Congressman Brian Babin from Texas. Congressman Babin serves on the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee with me, and he is my fellow co-chair of the Border Security Caucus. He was a part of the Congressional delegation that traveled to the southern border with me last month. I was honored to interview him about our trip and about our work on the committee. Defending the Second Amendment

When I took my oath of office, I swore to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. This does not exclude the Second Amendment. I will oppose any of the Democrats’ attempts to infringe on our Second Amendment rights, including H.R. 8. Read MORE about the Democrats' mission to overturn the Second Amendment in this week’s Freedom Friday post.

Defending Life

Last month, New York passed a radical pro-abortion law that legalized abortion in the third trimester. This week, Virginia also considered a similar bill, and the Rhode Island legislature has the policy under consideration. New York, Virginia, and Rhode Island are trying to reverse the progress the national pro-life movement has made, but I’m thankful that under President Trump’s leadership, the federal government has prioritized the protection of life. Read my statement about these new developments.

Receiving Committee Assignments

Last week, I received my committee assignments for the 116th Congress: the House Committee on the Judiciary and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. I have enjoyed both committees and hope to build upon our efforts in the 115th Congress.

Attending the State of the Union

There will be a State of the Union! This upcoming Tuesday, President Donald Trump will deliver the State of the Union before a joint session of Congress. I will be attending and look forward to hearing from our President. Stay tuned next week to hear who I will be inviting to attend the address that night.

Gathering with Faith Leaders

When I arrived home yesterday, I had the privilege of gathering with faith leaders from the East Valley at my district office to talk about current events. I'm thankful for all the people back home who are praying for our district, our state, and our nation.

Holding a Telephone Town Hall

Earlier this week, I hosted a telephone town hall with thousands of my constituents. We talked about many topics, including border security, health care, the national debt, veterans care, and some of my recent votes. I will be hosting more telephone town halls throughout the year; check back on social media for notice of these events.

Recognizing Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke

Play Button

This week, I spoke on the House floor to recognize Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke’s service to the East Valley community and congratulate him on his new position. I look forward to working with him to serve our constituents in the East Valley.

Fighting for Border Security

Play Button

Even with the government reopened, Democrats have made it perfectly clear that they will not put national security interests above their politicized obstruction of the border wall. I'm encouraging President Donald Trump to use his authority to invoke Title 10 of the U.S. Code to obtain access to billions of dollars to build the wall. It may be our last hope to build the wall and secure our southern border.
