Dear Friend,

It is great to be back in Coastal Virginia for the District Work Period. I’m honored to tell you about everything that happened in the last week.

Standing up for our Servicemembers and their Families

As a proud 20-year Navy veteran, I have long seen the sacrifice and the bravery of our servicemembers and veterans. Servicemembers and their families are the backbone of Virginia, and it’s with great privilege that I’m able to advocate for them.

Recently, the House approved of two amendments that I introduced to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to assist our bravest men and women.

These amendments would eliminate unfair taxes on teachers who educate military children and put a spotlight on groundbreaking research for wound care for our troops

I commend the House for its passage of these important amendments.

Town Hall on Offshore Drilling

I had the pleasure of listening to and answering your questions about offshore drilling at a town hall. This issue is critical to our community. In Hampton Roads, climate change and offshore drilling aren’t theoretical problems for the future – they’re affecting our daily lives right now.

It was wonderful to work with state and local officials to emphasize the importance of our coastal waterways and why we should restrict offshore drilling along the entire Atlantic Coast. I enjoyed answering your questions and learning how offshore drilling would impact your lives. Events like these help policymakers better understand the issues so they can find solutions.

Preserving and protecting the natural beauty of our Coastal Virginia community is a high priority of mine, and I will continue to be a staunch advocate for our environment’s health.

We had a full house at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s town hall about the dangers of offshore drilling. It was great to be on the panel with state and local leaders to discuss this critical issue here in Virginia Beach!

Fighting Robocalls

I hate robocalls just as much as you! In addition to being annoying, many robocalls are frauds that seek to steal your personal information and money. Last year, tens of billions of robocalls were placed. This is a growing problem and the time to act is now.

Many millions of Americans are sick and tired of robocalls and their abusive practices. I was a proud cosponsor of the Stop Bad Robocalls Act, which would help tackle this issue. It was great to see the Stop Bad Robocalls Act overwhelmingly pass the House by a 429-3 vote. Millions of Virginians, including myself, are eagerly waiting for this bill to be passed by the Senate and signed into law.

Grand Opening of a New Military Family Clinic

It was an honor to attend and speak at the grand opening of the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at the Up Center in Virginia Beach!

The clinic will serve as an invaluable resource that provides all veterans and their families with quality mental health care. At the grand opening, I spoke about the importance of the clinic’s mission – to provide top-notch care for our bravest men and women and their families.
