Hello!

I am honored to serve as the newly elected representative for District 6 on the King County Council.  District 6 encompasses all or part of the cities of Bellevue, Bothell, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Redmond, Woodinville, the Points Communities, and the Sammamish Valley.   As your new County Council representative, I will bring my experience as a Bellevue City Councilmember, Bellevue Mayor, County Jail Director, and regional transit leader to advocate for our district on the many issues that will come before the County Council this year.

I will be sending periodic email updates to help you stay up to date on the events of King County. If you would like to be removed from this mailing list, please unsubscribe using the link below.

My goal at the County Council is to help all of my constituents enjoy the high quality of life in our region, including access to housing, education, job opportunities, and necessary services; as well as addressing our transportation and other mobility needs. Here's some of what I have been working on so far this year:

  1. Regional Transportation Committee: As the committee Chair, I will be leading the planning efforts for the future of metro bus service.

  2. Sound Transit 3: As a Sound Transit Board Member, I have been planning for the next phase of regional transit. Sound Transit will be unveiling a draft plan for ST3 and its plans for expanding service throughout the region. Stay tuned for more Sound Transit news!

  3. Eastside Rail Corridor: This year we are taking another step toward developing this regional asset. With the Trail Master Plan process open to the public, everyone will have the opportunity to weigh in. This planning will help us open the next segment of the trail in 2017.

  4. Housing and Addressing Homelessness: King County is taking a regional approach to combat homelessness. The video below is a segment from a press conference announcing over $17 million in investments by King County for affordable housing.

  5. Best Starts for Kids: The voters approved the Best Starts for Kids levy in November last year. Since then, I have worked to help accelerate planning to get much needed resources to serve the public.

As your King County Councilmember, I want to hear from you about the issues that you care about. Feel free to send me a message at any time with questions or concerns related to King County activities. If you would like to stay up to date about issues, please take a moment to fill out this survey:

Upcoming Events

People with mental illness cycling through our criminal justice system is a growing epidemic. In April, I will have the opportunity to join many of my colleagues around the country at the 2016 Stepping Up Initiative’s conference in Washington, DC. Make sure to check out my Facebook page, where I will be posting updates throughout the conference on the innovative approaches other communities have been using to combat the growing issues of mental health in our jails.

As a Sound Transit Board Member, I have been involved with the planning and development of policies that will be bringing light rail extensions across the Puget Sound Region. I am excited to announce one big event as it relates to light rail expansions here on the Eastside of King County:

I encourage you to stay involved with the Sound Transit process and look forward to improving our transportation system one leg at a time!

I am excited to begin this journey as your representative on the King County Council.

Until next time,

Claudia Balducci
