District Update |September 29, 2019

Dear Friend,

I joined the Mike Broomhead show to discuss this past week's announcement that the Democrats are launching an Impeachment Investigation. Congress has now officially squandered nine months of precious time on investigations. The fixation on the President has blinded House Democrats from accomplishing the actual work necessary for our country.

While the partisanship in D.C. continues, I will continue to work for Arizonans to ensure the work we came to Washington to do is not left behind. I would like to take this chance to update you on the work we did this past week.

Ensuring Fairness In Our Tax Code

I joined Senator Chris Van Hollen, Congressman Danny Davis, and Senator Rob Portman in introducing legislation that will fix the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC) to ensure fairness in our tax code.

The AOTC is a tax credit to help students pursuing a degree in higher education; however, students are not eligible for the tax credit if they have a prior drug conviction, hindering their successful re-entry into our economy after serving their time. As our economy continues to grow, this tax fix will help to fill the thousands of jobs we are seeing being made available in our growing economy.

I look forward to seeing how fixing the AOTC will benefit students taking the next step in their journey, and I thank my colleagues for working together to get this done.

Climate Technology Solutions

This past week was "Clean Energy Week," so I joined the House Floor to discuss the different disruptive climate technology and zero-emission facilities in production that we should be supporting across the country to clean our environment and reduce our carbon emissions.

There are pro-growth technologies available to help clean our environment without hurting our economy. To watch the full floor speech and view graphics used, use this link to find all of my speeches on my website.

Arizona Delegation Breakfast

I joined my colleagues in the Arizona delegation for our monthly bipartisan breakfast to discuss the issues each of us are working on for Arizonans. We have a great delegation, and I look forward to seeing how we can all continue to work together to get issues solved for everyone in our great state.

Fountain Hills Gold Star Family Member

It was truly a pleasure to meet Chantel, a Gold Star family member, who grew up in Fountain Hills at the Library of Congress' Veteran's History Project. This event sponsored by the Library of Congress is used to display the artifacts collected from veterans to preserve and teach future generations about the realities of war.

We must always remember and honor members of the military who sacrificed their life for this country and their families. To learn more about the Veteran's History Project and how you can get involved, click here

Veteran's Mobile Office Hours

This Wednesday, my District Office team will be at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7507 in Fountain Hills to discuss federal casework issues with constituents. If you need help or have any questions regarding federal casework, be sure to come by!

I appreciate you taking the time to read my weekly E-Newsletter. If you would like to contact me, please feel welcome to browse my website for the different services our office can help you with.
