District Update |September 22, 2019

Dear Friend,

It was a very productive week in Washington, D.C. I would like to take this opportunity to review the week and announce our upcoming telephone town hall on Tuesday night.

This Tuesday, September 24th, at 6:00 p.m. Arizona time, I will be hosting a telephone town hall for constituents to ask me questions and join neighbors in conversation to discuss issues affecting Arizona.

This will be an interactive way to speak with a vast amount of constituents, and hear the questions you have for me. I am looking forward to hearing constituent questions and concerns to best help me serve.

If you would like to be included in the telephone town hall, please us this link to add your contact information so we can give you a call directly.

Explaining Our Economics

Image

I spoke on the House floor about what our recent economic data means and discussed some of the solutions that will help us continue to grow our economy and pay for our promises like Social Security and Medicare.

We must find ways to help finance the incredible healthcare technologies that are coming to market. During the speech, I focused on the impact that treatment for diabetes alone has on Medicare spending. Diabetes spending accounts for 30% of Medicare spending for the next three decades. We must continue to invest in the cures and technology solutions available that would help to crash this cost.

Meeting with the Chambers

I had a great time meeting with the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Phoenix Chamber. We discussed Arizona's growing economy and how we can continue on this path of economic prosperity and success. We all agreed it is time for the House to pass the United States, Mexico, Canada Agreement (USMCA) which will further strengthen our trading relationship with neighbors Mexico and Canada.

Arizona has become a great place for businesses to grow. We must continue to provide a strong business climate and help create opportunities for Arizonans. I look forward to continuing to work with our Chambers this Congress and find ways to further expand our economy.

Good News for Arizona Moms

Arizona received a grant for $10 million this week to help improve maternal medicine. During my time in Congress, I have worked with all of my colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee to help investigate maternal mortality, and I have worked to help provide transportation access, particularly for our hot summer days when waiting for the bus is dangerous, for mothers on their way to appointments.

I am pleased to see this grant going towards Arizona moms, and I look forward to continuing to work on how we can solve the disparities in the maternal mortality crisis. To read more about this grant, click here.
