News from Representative Sánchez

Dear Friend,

This week is National Small Business Week, which recognizes entrepreneurs and the vital role they play in communities across the country. In Congress, I am working hard to provide small businesses with the support they need to thrive. This includes connecting local entrepreneurs to valuable resources and improving access to capital so we can help create opportunities for new startup businesses. Small businesses are essential role to the well-being of our community. That is why I continue to support legislation that helps these businesses at every step.

Already this year, I introduced bipartisan legislation with Congressman Phil Roe (R-TN) to reduce costs for small businesses looking to offer retirement plans to their employees. This bill passed unanimously out of the Ways and Means Committee as part of the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act. By helping more small businesses provide workplace retirement plans, we can give millions of hardworking families more financial peace of mind for the future. I continue to push for this bill’s final passage in the House of Representatives.

With more than 32 million small businesses in the United States, there are so many resources available for future business owners to get started. This week, I will introduce legislation to ensure that entrepreneurs turned down for small business loans get referred to their local Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for additional assistance and resources. These centers provide expertise in developing their business plans and help small businesses here in our community thrive. In addition to my legislative efforts, I always encourage those interested in starting a small business to review my community resources page to see some of the programs available through the Small Business Administration (SBA) and other federal organizations. These government-sponsored programs can help inspired entrepreneurs turn a great idea into a career.

Lastly, I would like to invite you to my next Coffee with the Congresswoman event at a small business in our community. We will be at Cassidy's Corner Cafe in La Mirada on Saturday, May 11th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. This is an excellent opportunity for us to meet and have a discussion about the issues that are important to you. You can RSVP by clicking on the event below. I hope to see you there!
