News from Representative Sánchez

Dear Friend,

After a wonderful week in California, I wanted to update you on some of the work I am doing at home and in Washington.

Last week, in addition to hosting a workshop on the 2020 Census and the important grant funding opportunities for our communities, I held my second Coffee with the Congresswoman event of the year in Cerritos. This was a great opportunity to hear from our neighbors, address any concerns, and answer questions while enjoying a cup of coffee at a local business. Thank you to all who came out to see me.

In Washington, the new majority in Congress continues to implement our For the People agenda. This includes passing a broad set of reforms intended to restore integrity in our voting processes and return power in our democracy to the people. Following years of inaction on gun control, I am also proud that the House recently passed responsible gun safety legislation, requiring background checks on all firearm sales. This issue has overwhelming bipartisan support around the country, and I continue to urge my colleagues in the Senate to pass it as a first step in keeping our communities safe.

Lastly, while much of the news coverage out of Washington focuses on the divisions in our political debates, please know that I do not let it distract me. As always, I remain focused on delivering results for our community and improving life for each of you.

Sincerely,

Linda T. Sánchez
Member of Congress

Updates from Washington

Image

This month, I introduced Protecting Our Widows and Widowers in Retirement (POWR) Act, legislation to help give widows and widowers financial security and peace of mind upon the death of a spouse.

I also joined my colleagues in bringing forward vital legislation to address part of our nation’s broken immigration system. The Dream and Promise Act would provide a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and those with Temporary Protected Status and the Deferred Enforced Departure.

In addition to these efforts, I am committed to lowering the rising cost of prescription drugs and developing smart infrastructure improvements that increase safety and make our community more resilient to the effects of climate change.
