District Update |August 2, 2019

Dear Friend,

We had exciting economic news this week from the Bureau of Labor Statistics including record setting labor force participation data and thousands of jobs added to our economy. I would like to update you on the economic news and some of the work I did in Arizona this past week.

More Jobs & Record Labor Force Participation

Each month of 2019 has shown a positive jobs report and record breaking data proving our U.S. economy remains a strong global leader. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released data on Friday showing 164,000 jobs were added into our economy in July, unemployment stayed low at 3.7%, and we reached a record high for labor force participation which hit 163.4 million jobs filled.

If we want to pay for our promises like Social Security and Medicare, we must continue  to grow our economy. To read the full jobs report, click here.  I look forward to seeing how we can fill the newly added jobs from this past month to keep our economy on top.

Great Read ⬇️

The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board released an article this past week that highlighted the new income inequality revisions made by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This update is extremely important, as it showed that wages are going up much faster than we originally thought, and we are also seeing savings rates are on the rise.

For too long, economists said we could never reach the statistics we are seeing in our current economy. However, we have now proven that pro-growth policies work, and we must continue to highlight the success and prosperity of all Americans, not just the 1%, who are experiencing the benefits of a strong economy.

Small Business Spotlights

Thank you Foothills Animal Rescue for your work across communities in Arizona to foster animals in need of a home. We gave them a Small Business Spotlight award for their commitment to saving animals and for their new location in memory of Brynne Smith, a 25-year old who died in a tragic helicopter accident.

This organization, started in 1995 as a foster based organization, has built other locations in Arizona to help more Arizonans foster and adopt. They have helped other pet rescue locations in Arizona too, including recently helping rescue 9 kittens from a local shelter who had no space. Their work is inspiring and Olivia and I had a great time learning more about what they do.

We gave Jennifer from Fountain Hills an award for earning accreditation from the National Home Watch Association and for the awesome work her business, Allhouse Home Watch Services, does for our community. Earning accreditation is a huge milestone, congrats to Jennifer!

If you know of an individual or business that you would like to submit a congressional recognition for, be sure to visit my website to fill out a quick online form. We want to make sure all of the stars in our community are being recognized for the important work they are doing for Arizonans.
