Weekly Newsletter

Welcome to a new weekly newsletter from my Office! I appreciate all the work Nevadans are doing to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our State, and I hope this newsletter helps keep you informed on the latest news in the Silver State - both COVID-19 related and not. This week, I want to remind all Nevadans of the importance of getting a flu shot this year. Kathy and I got ours this week and it was totally painless. Thanks for reading!

- Governor Steve Sisolak

This Week

On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the Governor and First Lady of Nevada Kathy Sisolak received their annual flu shots at the Southern Nevada Health District offices in Las Vegas, and encouraged all Nevadans to do the same to help stay healthy this year.

Nevadans can help in a number of ways, according to Immunize Nevada,  a statewide nonprofit that works closely with the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services on issues such as vaccinations: Text “ProtectNV” to 47177 for flu vaccine reminders and updates about local vaccine availability.

Nevada National Guard Update

The State learned this week the White House denied Governor Sisolak's repeated requests to have the federal government fully fund the Nevada National Guard's COVID-19 response efforts through the end of the year.

Since the Guard's activation in early April, federal Title 32 funding covered 100 percent of the related costs. In early August, the White House officially announced the federal government would fund 75 percent of the Nevada National Guard through December 31. Since then, President Trump has approved full funding of National Guard duties in five states to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

As a result of the President's decision, Nevada will use Coronavirus Relief Funds to cover the State's share of the cost burden to keep the Nevada National Guard activated through the end of December.

The existing extension is set to expire this Sunday, September 13. A one-year extension for drivers age 65 and older remains in effect.

As previously announced, the DMV will be offering online renewals for most driver’s licenses and all ID cards in October. Visit the DMV website for more information by clicking the image below.

Note on test results: This data changes rapidly as labs conduct tests and discover new cases. The numbers may not always match the most recent reports released by local health jurisdictions since statewide cases will be updated as lab data are available. Additionally, these are laboratory-based data which may reflect some results on patients that live outside of Nevada. Those cases will be removed once the epidemiological investigation is performed.
