Hello -

Last week, the House returned from its August recess. Although I missed being home in Arizona's Fifth District, I worked closely with my Washington staff to ensure that our legislative priorities receive their due consideration in the closing months of 2018. I was back in the district until this morning, touring businesses and meeting with constituents. Now I'm returning to D.C. for the remainder of the week.

Welcome Back, Senator Kyl!

Last week, Governor Ducey appointed Jon Kyl to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the late-Senator John McCain. I look forward to working with Senator Kyl in the Arizona delegation and commend him for his decision to return to public service. Read the rest of my statement here.

Declassify the Documents!

I recently participated in a press conference with several of my House colleagues to call on President Trump to release certain Department of Justice documents and applications that Congress has been requesting for months in order to exercise our oversight responsibilities.

On the podcast last week, I interviewed Sara Carter, an award-winning reporter, who has done exceptional work to uncover stories of corruption at the highest levels at the Department of Justice and FBI. Sara's reporting leads us to believe that the President could be close to making a decision on the declassification of these documents. I'd encourage you to listen to this insightful interview; click the logo above to access the episode.

August Economic Numbers

At the end of last week, economic data from the month of August was released to the public. These numbers (summarized in the graphic) are a direct result of the pro-growth policies that the administration and this Congress have executed since the beginning of last year. I've been pleased with our work on this front - and the results - so far. I hope we continue to cut regulations and taxes to sustain this economic success.

Serving Our Military Families

My colleagues and I joined the USO on Capitol Hill last week to assemble care packages for military spouses. Our thoughts and prayers are with these brave individuals - many of whom are anxiously waiting for their loved ones' returns.

Build the Wall!

I've been working hard to promote my bill, the Fund and Complete the Border Wall Act. Last week, I was honored to receive the support from the Angel Families, who have suffered great tragedies due to our federal government's dereliction of duty with our porous border. Read their letter of support for my bill here.

Freedom Fridays

Be sure to check my Freedom Friday page on my website every Friday. I highlight government regulations or examples of overreach I'm battling in Congress. Last Friday, I posted about my pending actions to redefine the role that accrediting bodies play in limiting the freedom of colleges and universities nationwide.

Fighting for Main Street

The National Retail Federation recently recognized me as a 2018 'Hero of Main Street' for standing up for the policies that help local businesses in Arizona grow and create jobs. I've been pleased to vote for policies that help promote growth in Arizona's Fifth Congressional District, and I will continue to uphold these positions.

Confirm Judge Kavanaugh!

Last week, Judge Brett Kavanaugh appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee for his confirmation hearing as a U.S. Supreme Court Justice nominee. I've been impressed with the transparent process of the confirmation proceedings in the Senate, and with Judge Kavanaugh's articulate handling of himself before this committee. I hope to see the committee vote to advance his nomination this week.
