Dear Friend,

Happy Memorial Day! Today, we honor the men and women who have made so many sacrifices to defend our freedom. We remember the fallen, and thank each of our service members for your strength and courage in the fight to keep this nation safe.

It was great to join neighbors in Fountain Hills today to celebrate our fallen service members this Memorial Day. God bless our military and their families.

Combating Valley Fever

I am pleased to announce the FORWARD Act, legislation to combat Valley Fever and support research to find a cure has been introduced in the House and Senate.

Since being in Congress, we have created the Valley Fever Task Force, a caucus to help educate Members of Congress about this orphan fungal disease found in the Southwest. Now, we have introduced legislation that helps to combat this disease. My colleague Rep. Kevin McCarthy and I have held round tables, met with researchers and scientists, and have learned so much about this disease. It is great to see this legislation bring attention to this disease, and to help those infected.

Every year, our community sees increased rates of Valley Fever. This legislation pushes for a breakthrough in research, it also introduces the first blockchain pilot program for collecting data for fungal diseases. As scientists are getting closer to a cure for valley fever [soon a vaccination for our pets], I look forward to seeing how the critical resources provided in this legislation will positively impact the southwest. We are extremely hopeful that a cure is in our near future.

Celebrating the 19th Amendment

100 years ago, the 19th Amendment passed the U.S. House of Representatives to give women the right to vote. The right to vote is one of our nation's most sacred rights, giving all individuals an equal voice in our elections. I wore a yellow rose in honor of this anniversary, just as supporters of women's suffrage did a century ago.

Securing Retirement Savings

This week, I voted for the SECURE Act, bipartisan legislation to help Americans save for retirement. We must all be thinking about our future plans, and how we are saving for them. This legislation is a great step in the right direction, but we still have more work to do to ensure we can all have peace of mind when retiring.
