The Congressional Award was established in 1979 by Congress to recognize initiative, service and achievement in our young people throughout the United States. It recognizes personal accomplishments and success in volunteer public service, personal development, physical fitness and exploration. Participants are encouraged to set their own goals and work to achieve those goals at their own pace.
