District Update |May 12, 2019

Dear Friend,

I would like to update you on some of the work we've been doing in Washington, D.C. and Arizona this past week.

I will start by wishing a very happy Mother's Day to all of our AZ-06 moms! Thank you for all that you do.

Celebrating Small Businesses' Success

This past week, we celebrated the positive impact small businesses have on communities across the country. Small businesses are the backbone of our communities, and we must continue to find ways to support them. I joined the Arizona Small Business Development Center at GateWay Community College for a round table discussion with small business owners. We discussed small business owners experience owning a business and the hurdles they face.

We are seeing many small businesses relocate to Arizona from all over the country because of our welcoming regulatory environment. Arizona must continue to ensure each of our small businesses are receiving support to be competitive in the current market.

I look forward to seeing our small businesses continue to succeed by implementing policy that best supports them.

Paid Family Leave Hearing

Play Button

This week, the Ways and Means Committee held a hearing to discuss federal family and medical paid leave. There are a variety of resources parents need to raise their children. This includes being provided time to support family in a new stage of life.

In our office, we have been committed to having 16 weeks of paid family leave for mothers and fathers who have a new addition to the family. I hope my colleagues are implementing a similar program in their congressional offices, as we all advocate for this at a federal level.

I look forward to continuing this discussion to ensure we are providing resources that support family formation. To watch the full hearing click above. I begin speaking at 2:27:20.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Thank you to all of the Arizona teachers who positively impact our children's lives. Teachers are some of the first role models our children have, and we are forever grateful for the work you do to help students succeed!

Record-Breaking Economic News

In the last week, we have received incredibly positive economic data. As a body, both Republicans and Democrats must work together to continue this growth for as long as possible.

I joined the House floor to discuss what the recent reports for economic data mean, and what steps we should be taking to continue on this path. If we can continue on this path of economic success, we will see incredible benefits as a society for the variety of programs we have.
