News from Representative Rouzer

After traveling across the 7th District during the month of August, it’s clear that we share many of the same concerns – especially when it comes to the Obama Administration’s so-called Iran “deal.”

As you know, Iran has publicly stated its goals of wiping Israel from the face of the Earth while the chant “Death to America” can be heard loud and clear from their public squares.  Unfortunately, they have a substantial history of actions which prove their commitment to both goals.

Last month, I had the opportunity to travel to Israel with a bipartisan group of House members.  Among many other visits, we met with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and discussed how this deal will impact the nation of Israel, the Middle East region, our allies and America.

My trip only reinforced what we both know: this deal paves the way for Iran to obtain nuclear capabilities that will not only threaten Israel and create an arms race in the Middle-East, but it will also be a direct threat to America.

First, this deal gives Iran everything it wants, including tens of billions of dollars in sanctions relief, which will most definitely be used to fund acts of terrorism.  Second, this deal risks a regional arms race in the already volatile Middle East region as Arab countries will likely seek to match Iran’s capabilities.  And, most importantly, Iran gains access to intercontinental ballistic missiles that have the ability to strike American soil.

That’s why I stood with the majority of my colleagues in the House of Representatives to pass several bills which challenge and oppose the Obama Administration’s Iran deal.  Israel is one of our nation’s greatest allies, and I often to refer to them as our aircraft carrier in the Middle East.  We cannot afford to gamble with their safety and security.  To do so is to gamble with our own.

There is another important point to make as well: America has always stood for what is right – the greatest force for good mankind has ever known.  I will fight to keep it that way and do everything I can to keep this bad agreement from being implemented.

On July 14, 2015, the first of several videos was released regarding Planned Parenthood’s abhorrent practice of selling fetal body parts and tissues of unborn babies.  Immediately upon discovery of these videos, I signed a letter to the Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee asking them to investigate the videos and Planned Parenthood.  The practices they depict are extremely disturbing and despicable.

The notion that taxpayers who are opposed to the killing of unborn babies be forced under law to fund abortion providers, such as Planned Parenthood, is contrary to basic moral sensibilities.  Therefore, I have cosponsored several bills, signed onto numerous letters and will vote on legislation today to defund Planned Parenthood and other programs that fund abortion.  I have even signed a letter to the Speaker relaying to him that I am opposed to any budget agreement that continues to fund Planned Parenthood with taxpayer dollars.  Rest assured, I will continue to fight for and support pro-life policies that protect the lives of the unborn.

This Saturday, I’m hosting a Back-to-School Safety Fair in Wilmington.  This event is ideal for families looking for a fun and educational event for both parents and school-aged children.  Police officers, firemen and first responders will be on site to interact with families, and enable kids to explore fire trucks and police vehicles as well as learn safety and first-aid tips.  Representatives from local and state agencies will also be in attendance to answer any questions parents may have regarding their children’s safety and the upcoming school year.

The Back-to-School Safety Fair is THIS SATURDAY from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Hoggard High School in Wilmington.  If you have any questions about this event, please call my Wilmington office at (910) 395-0202.

Hearing directly from the citizens of the district is critical to representing Southeastern North Carolina to the best of my ability.  I’m excited to announce that I will be hosting TWO townhalls next week.  These townhalls are an opportunity for constituents to ask questions, share their legislative ideas and discuss their concerns for the future of the country.

The first townhall will take place at Roland-Grise Middle School in Wilmington on Monday, September 21st at 7:00 p.m.  The second townhall will take place at Johnston County Community College on Tuesday, September 22nd at 7:00 p.m.  Feel free to forward this information to your friends, family and neighbors.  Hope to see you there!
