District Update |May 5, 2019

Dear Friend,

I would like to update you on some of the work we've been doing in Washington, D.C. and Arizona this past week.

Thank you for joining

I had a great time answering questions and talking with constituents during our telephone town hall. I plan to be doing more telephone town halls to connect with constituents about the work we are doing in Washington and Arizona, and to answer the questions they have for me.

Although we weren't able to get to each of your questions, I appreciate everyone taking the time to listen to the call. It was great to hear from so many Arizonans and discuss  the different issues that we have to work on.

First Joint Economic Committee Hearing

Play Button

This past Tuesday, we held our first full committee hearing of the 116th Congress on "Expanding Opportunities by Strengthening Families, Communities, and Civil Society."

This year, I am serving alongside Senator Mike Lee as the Senior House Republican Member of the Committee. I am honored to be a leader on this committee, as I have always had a strong interest in the Committee's portfolio. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to ensure our economy is being given the proper tools to succeed.

The Joint Economic Committee consists of both U.S. Senators and Members of the House of Representatives. Each Congress we focus on reviewing economic conditions and to recommend improvements to economic policy.

USO Care Packages

I had a great time joining the USO to assemble care packages for service members. As these men and women are away from their families, I am happy my colleagues and I can send them a small piece of home.

Thank you to all of the men and women who make so many sacrifices to keep our country safe. We will always be indebted to you for your service to keeping our nation secure and free. God bless our troops.

Service Academy Nominations

Congratulations Alyssa on receiving the Service Academy Nomination from our office and an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. You have a very bright future ahead, and your commitment to serving our country is truly courageous.

Our office has the privilege of nominating students for scholarships to attend U.S. Service Academies each year. The Service Academy Nomination process will begin on May 15th for students applying to Service Academies for the Fall of 2020.

If you are interested in applying to a U.S. Service Academy, or have questions about the nomination process, please see the resources available on my website. If you have further questions, please feel welcome to reach out to my district office at (480) 946-2411.

Desert Mountain Senior Awards

This year, my District Office team worked with 17 high schools in our district to highlight students for their achievements. We awarded one student a Merit award and several Scholastic Achievement awards. Overall, we awarded over 150 certificates to students.

There are so many talented students here in Arizona. It was great to hear about their achievements and give them well-deserved recognition for their hard work.
