A Danger to Living Things

Each Earth Day, the international community renews our commitment to protecting the environment. Since 1970, communities around the world have united on this day to highlight the urgency with which we must act to protect the world’s air, water, land, and wildlife for the next generation.

Unfortunately, in my view the President and the House Republican leadership's policies show a contempt for science that is endangering the health of our children and all living things. I believe, the President's actions are continuing the dangerous crusade against clean air, clean water, and our clean energy future.

Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi meets with last year’s Goldman Environmental Prize recipients – six individuals who have made a profound impact in their communities and throughout the world by fighting for environmental justice.

So far, the House Republican Majority and the President have overturned countless health and environmental protections enacted under the Obama Administration: lifted regulations on coal mining and oil and gas exploration, eliminated protections for waterways near coal mining sites, and plans to roll back funding for the Environmental Protection Agency. I will continue to fight these efforts to scale back on the progress achieved under the Obama Administration.

The American people are more engaged on the climate crisis and environmental justice today than ever before. We must ensure America continues to lead in clean energy and confronts the global climate crisis, for the health of our communities, the success of our economy, and the strength of our national security.
