District Update |April 28, 2019

Dear Friend,

I would like to update you on upcoming events and some of the work we've been doing in Arizona this past week.

This Wednesday, May 1st, at 6:00 p.m. AZ time, I will be hosting a telephone town hall for constituents to ask me questions and join neighbors in conversation to discuss issues affecting Arizona.

This will be an interactive way to speak with a vast amount of constituents, and hear the questions you have for me. I am looking forward to hearing constituent questions and concerns to best help me serve.

If you would like to be included in the telephone town hall, please us this link to add your contact information so we can give you a call directly.

Continuing Our Economic Success

The 1st Quarter of GDP growth for 2019 was released this Friday and showed the continued economic success and strength our economy is experiencing.

We have to take time to reflect on the positive economic news we have received in the last two years. Each month our jobs reports have been positive, each quarter since 2017, our GDP growth has far succeeded expectations, and each month our national and state unemployment rates have remained low.

I look forward to seeing how we can continue on this path of success and create more economic prosperity and opportunities for Arizonans.

Supporting Tribal Communities

In February of 2019, the IRS and U.S. Treasury opened a comment period for opportunity zones to discuss proposed regulations. These regulations proposed would exclude many tribal communities from being able to participate in opportunity zones.

During the comment period, our office contacted the IRS and U.S. Treasury to ensure tribal communities were able to testify during the comment period about how the proposed regulations would exclude them from being able to participate.

On April 17, 2019, another round of opportunity zone regulations were released and included “leased tangible property.” This regulation would support tribal communities, by allowing tribal land to be included in opportunity zone planning.

Thank you to the IRS and U.S. Treasury for ensuring tribal communities were included in these regulations. Tribal communities have long supported local businesses by leasing their land to community members. Now, they will be able to participate in the benefits opportunity zones provide.

Meeting with Honeywell Aerospace

Thank you Honeywell for having me join you to discuss your aerospace manufacturing presence in Phoenix.

It was great to learn about the advanced technologies that are being developed for the aerospace and defense industries and how they are being deployed on commercial, defense, and space aircraft that enable more fuel-efficient and safer flying.

New Website Update

Recently, we made some changes to my website! Ensuring constituents can easily access services our office can provide is a top priority.

Now, constituents will be able to find information about federal casework issues, booking tours in Washington, D.C., learning about the legislative issues I have been working on, and more, easier to access through my official website.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel welcome to reach out to my Washington, D.C. and Scottsdale office either by calling us or on the website. We look forward to hearing from you!
