For Sale: Your Private Browsing History

Today, President Trump’s signature on S.J.Res 34 has unleashed internet service providers to sell your most intimate personal information – without your knowledge or your consent. This measure is a breathtaking violation of Americans’ privacy in one of the most personal parts of their lives. Republicans have made it possible to sell your most personal and sensitive information – your browsing history, your children’s location, everything.

Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi delivers remarks on the House floor, urging a ‘no’ vote on S.J. Res. 34, a Republican measure to eliminate Americans’ internet privacy, which passed the House 215-205.

Someone with as many hidden secrets as President Trump should have greater respect for the privacy of the American people. Republicans will do anything to keep President Trump’s tax returns hidden. Meanwhile, they’ve decided to sell Americans’ most personal and sensitive information to anyone with the money to buy it.

Privacy is a value that the American people treasure.
The use of the Congressional Review Act to overturn this Obama Administration rule will not only set a terrifying precedent but does permanent damage to the Federal Communications Commission and their ability to keep America’s personal information safe. House Democrats will fight to restore America's basic right to privacy on the internet.
