A Note from Stephen...
Greetings District 3 neighbors,
Here at City Hall, we are in the midst of budget season, working hard to finalize a budget for fiscal year 2023 (FY23). Many of you have shared with me what you would like to see in the budget, and I am working to include as many of those priorities as feasible.

There is still time for you to weigh in! Our office is hosting two budget forums, in collaboration with the Independent Budget Analyst, to share an overview of Mayor Gloria's proposed budget and hear your feedback. Details on these sessions are in this newsletter and I hope you will join us.

More information about the entire FY23 City of San Diego Budget process can be found here. Thank you for your continued engagement in making our our city the best it can be!

Free Transit for Youth 18 & Under
I serve on the board of directors of the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and was proud to support free transit for youth 18 years and younger.
This has been in effect since May 1 for anyone aged 18 and under with a PRONTO account
This program is a partnership between SANDAG, MTS, NCTD, and the County of San Diego and connects youth to school, jobs, entertainment, and more with the SANDAG Youth Opportunity Pass pilot program. This includes unlimited rides on the bus, Trolley, COASTER, and SPRINTER at no cost through June 30, 2023.

SANDAG is funding this pilot program, with support from the County of San Diego, as part of its Transit Equity Initiative, which is guided by the 2021 Regional Plan.

A new power option in town
San Diego Community Power (SDCP), a not-for-profit public agency that provides clean, renewable energy at competitive rates, began providing service to the City of San Diego this month.

SDCP’s standard PowerOn service offers 50% renewable energy and a slight savings compared to SDG&E’s standard generation service, which is around 31% renewable.
Everyone has the option to opt up to 100% renewable energy for a slight premium of less than a penny per kWh. The City of San Diego facilities and offices have already moved over to SDCP for 100% renewable energy.
