One Small Step -- One big lift

The world's attention was again focused on Houston Thursday as the space shuttle replica Independence was hoisted by crane to its permanent home atop the nonprofit Space Center Houston's historic shuttle carrier aircraft. The free public event "Rise of Independence" marked another chapter in the ongoing story of Space Center Houston's future one-of-a-kind international landmark exhibit.

"This exhibit might be housed at Space Center Houston, but this is your exhibit and your history," Manned Space Flight Education Foundation Chairman of the Board Fred Griffin passionately told the assembled crowd. "Join the mission and help support this future world treasure." The nonprofit education foundation needs to raise a final $2.2 million in order to complete the $12 million educational project.

Nurses receiving the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nursing at Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital are recognized for their outstanding service to patients. The July, 2014, winner is Sheri Mason, RN, a nurse on the Surgical/Pediatrics unit. Sheri started at Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital as a technician and has worked and grown to become a registered nurse.

Stockman's Staffers' Restaurant of the Week: Snowflake Donuts

Snowflake Donuts, formerly Big B's in Pinehurst, has been a mainstay in Orange county for over twenty years.  These excellent donuts, Kolaches, and breakfast sandwiches are cranked out on a daily basis and enjoyed by locals and commuters alike on their way in to work.

"My favorite is the chocolate glazed chocolate-filled donut because it seems nobody else makes this particular type of donut anywhere and it's so delicious.  I make sure to get a few every time I come home to work in our district office," said Stockman Legislative Assistant Joshua Delano.

Snowflake Donuts is an A+ rated business with the Better Business Bureau, with good reason.  They do a great job making great-tasting breakfast food every day.
