As I head back to Washington for votes in the House of Representatives, I wanted to update you on my work back home in the district. (If you missed our first newsletter, just click here!)

Before that, big news: We announced our Eastern Shore Office in Onley! Today is the first day it’s open – the phones are on, our doors are open, and we work for you.

Now to the recap: After a great weekend visiting a local science fair and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, we hosted our first town hall!

Nearly 250 residents of Virginia’s Second Congressional District attended on a busy Monday night. I was impressed by the questions you asked – hearing from you helps me better represent our district! One of the best things about representing Coastal Virginia is the thoughtfulness of our community.

Good government means collaboration across local, state, and federal agencies. Many community leaders and federal agencies attended our town hall, and I thank them for enriching our community conversation.

Special thanks to Pastor R. Perez Gatling, a wonderful host and partner as we planned and executed our first town hall event. We appreciate and thank Pastor Gatling and Ebenezer Baptist Church for all they do in Virginia Beach and beyond!

This week, it was great to travel the district, from Hampton Roads to the Eastern Shore. I served meals to Virginia Beach seniors, participated in a health care roundtable in Norfolk, spoke with local media about lowering the cost of prescription drugsmet with the Chesapeake Bay Advisory Council, and joined a bipartisan congressional delegation to tour aircraft carriers and meet with local shipbuilders.

I also toured Eastern Shore Community College, met with Eastern Shore Area Agency on Aging/Community Action Agency leadership, and heard from local, state, and business leaders in Northampton County.

As always, you have my word that I will continue working hard each day, and I welcome your thoughts!!

We were blessed with beautiful weather at the Ocean View St. Patrick’s Day Parade with Congressman Bobby Scott, Mayor Kenneth Cooper Alexander, Senator Lynwood Lewis, Delegate Joseph Lindsey, and more.

I loved seeing so many impressive projects at the Science Matters Science Fair at the Advanced Technology Center in Virginia Beach. Our community’s future is bright!
I enjoyed serving lunch and catching up with wonderful seniors at Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia's March for Meals Community Champions Event in Virginia Beach.
I’ll never forget the great, thoughtful crowd at our first town hall. Thank you all for coming out!

Thank you to the Heritage High School NJROTC Color Guard; such an impressive group of young people.

I toured Auxiliary Systems in Norfolk. The Hampton Roads area is lucky to have so many workers committed to supporting our military.

I enjoyed learning about Military Produce Group, SpartanNash/MDV, and Norfolk Banana & Produce Company’s logistics support for our Defense Commissary Agency. These workers deliver for our military families at home and overseas.

The Transportation Institute and Iron workers Local 79 brought 16 organizations together to discuss issues affecting maritime trade.

It was wonderful meeting with the Chesapeake Bay Advisory Council to provide updates on my bipartisan bill to fully fund the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Chesapeake Bay Program.
Our bipartisan group recently met with U.S. Fleet Forces leadership to discuss the fleet’s modernization needs, ship repair requirements, and more. Proud to come together with Congressman Bobby Scott, Congressman Rob Wittman, and Congressman Denver Riggleman to show the high priority of understanding and resourcing the U.S. Navy’s mission.
ImageI was honored to meet AFGE Local 2328 employees at Hampton VA Medical Center during AFGE’s federal employee appreciation week. My thanks is a small way to acknowledge the hard work and tremendous medical care they provide to our veterans each day.
It was great to visit with students, faculty, and administrators on campus at Eastern Shore Community College.
At a roundtable with local, state, and business leaders of Northampton County, we discussed a wide range of issues, including infrastructure, broadband, Virginia’s historic Medicaid expansion, education, mental health, the environment, coastal resilience, public safety, and more.
