Make Sure You’re Counted In The 2020 Census

Dear San Franciscan,

The Census is a pillar of our democracy, enshrined by our Founders in the Constitution to ensure that all people who live in the United States, regardless of citizenship, are equally counted and represented.

An accurate count is critical to communities across the country. The results of the 2020 Census will help determine how over a trillion dollars in federal funding flow into communities every year for the next decade. That funding shapes many different aspects of every community, no matter the size, no matter the location.

Over the next decade, lawmakers, business owners and many others will use 2020 Census data to make critical decisions. The results will show where communities need new schools, new clinics, new roads and more services for families, older adults and children. When you respond to the Census, you help your community get its fair share. Census data will also inform how more than $1.5 trillion are spent supporting your state, county and community’s vital programs, including Medicaid, Head Start, block grants for community mental health services and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP.

How To Complete the Census

There are three easy ways to complete the Census – you can fill out the form online at my2020census.gov, by phone at 844-330-2020 (language options are available here) or by mail if you received a paper form. You should complete the form as soon as possible to avoid a visit from an enumerator beginning August 6.

Congress will be vigilant to ensure a full, fair and accurate Census and continue working to guarantee maximum participation and inclusion so that every person in every community is counted.
