U.S. Rep. Peter Welch visited the Northeast Kingdom Friday.One of his stops included a bicycle ride on the Kingdom Trails."And then to get out on the trail myself, not that I'm a great rider, but they got trails to suit even a congressman. It was fantastic, absolutely wonderful," Welch said.The trails attract people from near and far.More than 90 landowners allow the trails to go through their properties."Kingdom trails and the businesses all cooperate to do something that people like me can come out and enjoy and it has a big economic boost to the area," Welch said.He also held a roundtable discussion at the Wildflower Inn at which participants discussed the economy of outdoor recreation."It was nice to hear a lot of ideas that people had locally and regionally about how we can, how things can improve or get more robust in areas that seem to need more attention," said Village Sports Shop owner Chris Hibshman.Welch is co-chair of the House Outdoor Recreation Caucus."I've got Republican colleagues who I don't agree on with anything but I agree with them on hiking and outdoor activity and we want to get some money back to provide seed money for local organizations like Kingdom Trails who are doing such good," Welch said.
