VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Congresswoman Elaine Luria announced the winners of the Congressional Art Competition in Virginia’s Second Congressional District.

The award ceremony was held on Friday at Virginia Wesleyan University. Congresswoman Luria had the honor to introduce the overall winner, Kyra Moe from Salem High School in Virginia Beach, whose artwork will hang in the U.S. Capitol building for a year.

Two regional winners were also announced, and their artwork will hang in Luria's local district offices. The Peninsula winner was Faith Strickland from Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, and the Southside winner was Taylor Greene, also from Salem High School.

Congresswoman Luria commissioned a panel of five local artists, art professors, and gallery managers to decide the winners. With more than 40 submissions, this was a competition stacked with flair, and all entrants were commended by Congresswoman Luria for their impressive art.

“Kyra’s work will be a great reminder of our district whenever I walk through the halls of the U.S. Capitol, and Faith and Taylor’s art will beautify our local district offices,” Congresswoman Luria said. “Walking around the gallery on Friday, it was clear how much talent our students have here in Hampton Roads. I’d also like to thank our competition’s judges for their time and expertise!”
